A Five Mineral Combination Specimen From Skardu
This specimen weighs 621 grams and measures 140 x 84 x 58 mm, built around a cluster of terminated, damage free herderite crystals, one of the rarer mineral species to find in specimen form. Alongside the herderite, the piece contains a cluster of green tourmaline crystals, a terminated and lustrous topaz crystal with a microlite crystal resting directly on it, plus quartz and a natural albite matrix holding the whole formation together.
Herderite itself is uncommon enough that most mineral collections don't include a piece of any size, let alone one combined with four other distinct mineral species in the same natural formation. Finding this many minerals grown together without damaging one another during formation or extraction is a genuinely rare natural event, which is part of what separates a combination specimen like this from a single crystal find. The specimen also holds a self standing position on its own, meaning it displays upright without needing a separate stand, which adds practical value on top of its rarity as a five-way mineral combination.
