A Terminated Purple Scapolite Crystal Out of Afghanistan
This natural scapolite crystal comes from the mineral-rich pegmatite fields of Afghanistan, a region collectors turn to for some of the deepest purple scapolite available anywhere. At 308 grams and fully terminated on its growth point, this is a complete crystal, not a broken or reworked fragment, which matters a lot to anyone who's been burned by specimens that turn out to be cut down from a larger piece.
Color is the first thing you notice here. The purple runs rich and even through the body of the crystal, carrying real depth rather than a washed-out lilac tone that fades under normal light. Luster is strong on the crystal faces, giving it a glassy quality that photographs well and looks even better in hand. The termination is clean and undamaged, no chips along the edges or fractured points, which is genuinely hard to find in raw scapolite at this size. It's a piece that reads as both a mineral specimen for a display case and a striking centerpiece if you're working with larger cabochons or wire wrapping.
